Mysore/Mandya: The authorities of the Mysore Palace Board have denied permission for the shooting of the Tamil movie ‘Linga,’ featuring superstar Rajnikanth. The movie is the fourth production by Rockline Entertainers Private Limited.

T S Subramanya, Deputy Director of the Palace Board, told Deccan Herald that the director of the film had contacted him over a month ago seeking permission to shoot the movie at the palace. “However, considering the heritage status of the palace, the permission was denied,” he said. After the Dr Rajkumar-starrer hit film ‘Mayura,’ that was extensively shot inside the palace, no other film has been given permission to shoot inside the palace.

Rajnikanth’s film will now be shot at Hotel Lalitha Mahal Palace on May 6 and 7.

Shooting in Mandya

Rajnikanth and other multilingual actors are arriving in Mandya district to take part in the shooting of the Tamil film. The shooting is scheduled between May 3 and May 11 at Srirangapatna, Melkote and Krishnarajasagar (KRS) and surrounding areas. Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha is also part of the crew.

Rajnikanth’s superhit film ‘Padayappa’ was shot in the scenic locales of the district more than a decade ago.

A majority of Sandalwood (Kannada) films are picturised in Srirangapatna, Melkote, Mahadevapura, KRS and other places. The picturesque locations have made Mandya district a favourite shooting destination. Recently released films ‘Drama’, ‘Kirathaka’ and others were shot in the district. The slang used by the people of Mandya has been adopted in several films and is a great hit among viewers.

The production unit of the film has sought permission from the authorities concerned. Accordingly two teams of the District Armed Reserve (DAR) and 15 police personnel have been deployed for security purposes of the shooting team.

As security is being used for private purposes, charges fixed by the government will be collected from the producers, said Superintendent of Police Bhushan Borase.
