A 14-year-old girl was repeatedly raped allegedly by two persons near Madikeri after they picked her up from a village near Vittal recently. According to the Vittal Police, who registered the complaint on Wednesday, the class 9 student was picked up from her house around 8.30 p.m. by two neighbours on April 18. The duo drove her to an isolated spot near Madikeri and raped her, said the police. The complaint further said that one of them took her to his father-in-law’s house, which was empty, and raped her again. She was threatened and another neighbour was asked to keep an eye on her if she went to the police, said the police. Vittal Police are on the lookout for the three.
Mechanic killed
A mechanic was killed after an engine he was working on exploded at Ajjawar in Sullia taluk on Thursday evening. Around 5.30 p.m., Sajir Ahmed (45), a resident of Hassan district, was working on the truck when the driver accidentally pressed the accelerated, said the Sullia police. The gear box exploded and Mr. Ahmed succumbed to the injuries sustained. The driver of the truck fled the scene after the accident, said the police.
Truck runs over woman
A woman was knocked down by a pickup truck at Vaderhobli village in Kundapur taluk on Thursday. According to the district police, Sharada (58) was walking on the service road near Bobbaryakatte Temple in Vaderhobli, when a pick-up truck moving from Kundapur to Udupi came from behind and knocked her down. She suffered injuries to her head, hands and legs died on the spot.
Rash and negligent driving by the driver of the pickup truck is said to be the cause of the accident. A case had been registered at the Kundapur Traffic Police Station, the police said.
