Bangalore/Mangalore: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday turned down the demand for a CBI probe into the killing of a youth by the Anti-Naxal Force personnel at a checkpost near Sringeri in Chikmagalur district.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, the chief minister said the CID is competent to investigate the incident and the government would take appropriate action once the probe report is submitted.

The Karnataka Muslim Federation led by Information Minister Roshan Baig had urged the chief minister to hand over the investigation to the CBI.

Former Union minister B Janardhana Poojary in Mangalore criticised Home Minister K J George for not ordering a CBI probe into the killing of Kabeer, a resident of Krishnapura in Mangalore.

Addressing a press meet here, Poojary said an “impartial probe” should be conducted into the incident by an independent agency like the CBI to bring out the truth.
