Lok Adalat settles 112 cases

The National Lok Adalat, organised by the Bangalore Development Authority and the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, was held here on Wednesday.

According to BDA authorities, as many as 112 cases were heard in three separate court halls on the first day of the adalat. Most cases pertained to allotment of site at the Arkavathy Layout. The other cases that were heard included those with respect to khata transfer, issue of possession certificate and approval of development plans. The cases were heard in three separate court halls.

BDA Commissioner T. Sham Bhat said of the 8,813 sites of Arkavathy Layout, 3,600 were litigation-free. Around 1,400 cases would be settled by month-end and 3,813 cases would be cleared next month.

Besides litigants whose cases were heard, there were many other people on the Lok Adalat premises who wanted the judges to hear and settle their cases, but were not heard. BDA officials, however, clarified that cases of only those litigants were heard who had been issued tokens.

Earlier in the day, High Court judge and chairperson of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority N.K. Patil inaugurated the National Lok Adalat. Speaking on the occasion, he underlined the need to restore the confidence of the people in civic agencies.
