A man working as a clerk in a military hospital in Ambala, Haryana, allegedly assaulted and stabbed his wife, in-laws and his wife’s daughter from her first marriage at their home in Horamavu, Hennur on Friday evening.

The man, Prabhakaran (40), is from Tamil Nadu. He married Kirtana (37) a couple of years ago. Both were divorcees who met on a matrimonial website. Kirtana works as a software professional. Her daughter from her first marriage, Ashwathi (13), is a class VIII student. She lives with her parents and daughter in Horamavu.

Differences had cropped up in their marriage and Kirtana had issued a notice to Prabhakaran seeking divorce. Prabhakaran was not willing to separate. The couple had a heated argument on Friday evening at home.

Police sources say that Prabhakaran picked up a dagger and stabbed Kirtana repeatedly and also assaulted his in-laws Gopal (70) and Lakshmi (65), and Ashwathi. Hearing their screams, neighbours rushed to their house and rescued the victims. Prabhakaran fled from the spot.

All the four are undergoing treatment at a nearby private hospital. Police sources say that all of them are out of danger. Hennur police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Prabhakaran.

Preliminary investigations revealed that there was also a dispute over property. Police sources say that Prabhakaran and Kirtana had recently bought a plot of land in Horamavu. Later, Prabhakaran transferred the land in Kirtana’s name as per her wish.

Police said that Prabhakaran was enraged as Kirtana demanded a divorce soon after the plot was transferred in her name.
