Two young men have been arrested for Tuesday’s attack on a security guard at a Corporation Bank ATM in Banaswadi.

The suspects – Housuon Thong, 18, and Thon-lina-s-u-m Kunzo, 20, both natives of Aizawl in Mizoram, – were employed at Chicken County Hotel in Majestic, where the police arrested them. The duo worked at a hotel in Jayanagar before moving to Majestic four months ago.

Thong and Kunzo told the police that they were discussing their financial problems at a local bar on Monday night, when a customer suggested that they burgle ATMs to lay hands on huge sums. Then they decided to target a kiosk, police said. After a reconnaissance of 10 ATM kiosks, they noticed Murugan, security guard at the Corporation Bank ATM in Banaswadi, sleeping in the chair inside the kiosk, and attacked him.

The entire incident was captured by the CCTV camera. Moreover, they were neither wearing helmets nor had they masked their faces. The images of their physical features in the footage suggested that they could be from any northeastern state. The police launched a search operation and visited various hotels where people from the northeast were employed and zeroed in on the duo.
