It was an emotional return to her office on Friday as 44-year-old Jyothi Uday resumed work, nearly three months after she was attacked at an ATM centre a couple of hundred metres away from her office.
The colleagues and staff of the Corporation Bank service branch, near Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) where she works, welcomed Ms. Jyothi and enquired about her well being.
Putting behind the nightmare, she said that she was happy to return to work. Though the deep cut on her head and face has healed, the attack has left a scar mark on her face. Attending to work at the branch, she said that she does not fear to go to an ATM, and that she was happy to lead a normal life, away from the media glare. After working for over three hours, she signed out.
Jyothi Uday, who went to withdraw money at the Corporation Bank ATM on the busy N.R. Square was attacked by an armed man on November 19. He robbed her debit cards and fled the scene after shutting down the rolling shutters leaving her in a pool of blood. Jyothi Uday later recuperated and was discharged on December 20.
Attacker still at large
The city police, who had obtained the CCTV footage, was initially confident of nabbing the attacker, but later expressed their helplessness citing technical reasons. A senior police officer said that since the attacker did not have any previous records with the police, it has been difficult for them to ascertain his identity. “After wide coverage about the issue in the media, the attacker went underground and has not surfaced,” a senior police officer said.
