The former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday said that the Janata Dal(S) is not a party of one family or of a father-and-son but a party fighting for the cause of social justice.
Mr. Deve Gowda, who is part of the efforts being made by leaders of like-minded parties to form an alternative to the Congress and the BJP ahead of the general elections, said that he was not nursing an ambition to become the Prime Minister again.
“Let Mulayam Singh Yadav [of the Samajwadi Party], Nitish Kumar [Janata Dal-United] or Jayalalithaa [AIADMK] become the Prime Minister,” he said.
Without naming political parties or leaders, Mr. Deve Gowda said: “Politics has touched a low level. In my over 50-year political career, I have not witnessed such low level of politics seen in the speeches of some leaders now.”
