The City police on Tuesday have solved the recent heist bid at an Indian Bank ATM in Malleswaram with the arrest of two persons, including the security guard of the ATM kiosk.
Malleswaram police said the security guard, Satish, 23, and his accomplice Siddesh, 26, both from Davangere, had tried to loot cash from the ATM on December 24.
He and Siddesh used a gas cutter and concrete cutter to break open the ATM but failed, police said.
When they failed, they fled the place, only to try their luck at a bank branch and a jewellery shop. But they failed in their attempts again.
During interrogation, Satish reportedly confessed to leading the failed heist. He said that they later went to Nelamangala where they tried to burgle a Canara Bank branch and a jewellery shop, all in vain.
Satish, who got a job in a private security agency barely a week before he tried to loot the ATM, had forged the marks card of a friend to land the job.
When the police launched a hunt for Satish, the address on his forged marks card came to their help. Police tracked down Girish, friend of Satish living in Bangalore whose marks card he had forged.
Using his inputs, they nabbed Satish and his accomplice at Laggere. Satish’s mobile number at the security agency was also useful in the arrest. Girish revealed that Satish had taken his marks card on the pretext of getting an Aadhaar card.
