250 zilla panchayat members have not submitted their asset details: RTI

BANGALORE: In an interesting revelation, the authorities have stated that out of the 285 zilla panchayat (ZP) members in nine districts coming under Bangalore division, only 30 have filed their statements on assets and liabilities for the year 2012-13.

This information has been provided to V Sahshidhar, president of Karnataka Police Mahasangha, upon a query filed under RTI.

As per the information out of the 285 zilla panchayat members in ZPs coming under Bangalore division, only 30 members have filed their assets and liabilities as contemplated under section 175 A of the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act, 1993.

As per the information received under RTI, 33 members of Bangalore Urban ZP, 18 members of Bangalore Rural ZP, 22 in Ramanagaram ZP ,28 in Kolar ZP, 12 members of Chikkaballapur ZP,57 members of Tumkur ZP, 34 in Chitradurga ZP, 34 in Davanagere and 17 in Shimoga ZP have not submitted their assets details.

According to the provisions of the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (taluk panchayat and Zilla panchayat declaration of assets by the elected members) rules 2010, every elected members of TP/ZP has to declare assets held by them and also their family members within three months of assuming of office/membership and also within one month of every calendar year during their term of office failing to comply with same attracts disqualification. The regional commissioner has to bring this fact to the notice of the State Election Commission for taking a final decision.

Meanwhile, Shashidhar has moved the high court complaining inaction on the part of authorities and the matter is now referred to division bench
