BANGALORE, October 5: A new visitor in Bangalore University’s (BU) Jnanabharathi campus could be made to believe it to be the Raj Bhavan — the residence-cum-office of the Governor of Karnataka.
Confusing bilingual signboards on the varsity’s vast main campus is turning out to be the laughing stock as it erroneously refers to the Vice-Chancellor’s residence as that of the Governor’s.
There are at least three boards on the campus which identify Vice-Chancellor B. Thimme Gowda’s residence as that of the ‘Kulapati’s’ (Governor H.R. Bhardwaj) in Kannada. It should have been ‘Upa-kulapati.’ Mr. Bhardwaj is also the Chancellor of all universities in the State.
The signboard in English is, however, correct.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Residence is correctly depicted in the sign-board as ‘Kulapathigala Nivasa’. The Kannada equivalent of various designations are as follows:
Vice-Chancellor: Kulapathi (not Upakulapathi)
Pro-Chancellor : Sama Kuladhipathi (Education Minister)
Chancellor : Kuladhipathi(The Governor of State)
