Special courts to try those indicted in mining scam: Siddaramaiah

GULBARGA, September 22:  The State government will set up special courts to try those indicted in the mining scam by the Lokayukta, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said.

The government has accepted the Lokayukta report and initiated the process of implementing it, he said after being felicitated by the Gulbarga District Congress Committee here on Saturday.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said there was no escaping for those who had committed illegalities. The government was committed to bringing to book all those involved in the mining scam, he said.

Party workers played a crucial role in the Congress victory in the Assembly elections, he said, and added that party workers’ interests would be taken into consideration during appointment of members and chairmen of boards and corporations.

The coming Lok Sabha elections would be a litmus test to the Congress. Party workers should pull their socks up and go all out to ensure that the Congress wins at least 25 of the 28 seats in the State, he said.

He said the Congress government had started implementing a majority of the promises made in the election manifesto. A sum of Rs. 1,500 crore had been allocated to implement these promises, including the Anna Bhagya and the Ksheera Bhagya schemes .

Minister for Municipal Administration and Wakfs Qamar-ul Islam, spoke. The former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, Textiles Minister Baburao Chinchansur, the former chairman of the Central Haj Committee Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi and Gulbarga DCC president Bagangouda Patil Sunkanur were present.
