Karnataka - ElectionsBANGALORE: The high-decibel campaign for the Bangalore Rural and MandyaLokSabhabypolls ended on Monday. Both constituencies go to the polls on Wednesday and the result is on Saturday.

The seats fell vacant following the resignations of former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and N Cheluvarayaswamy after they got elected to the assembly.

Anitha Kumaraswamy, wife of Kumaraswamy, takes on DK Suresh, brother of Congress MLA DK Shiva Kumar, in Bangalore Rural while cine star Ramya of the Congress is pitted against C S Puttaraju of JD(S) in Mandya.

The battle has become prestigious following the sparring between chief minister Siddaramaiah and former PM HD Deve Gowda during the campaign. With both constituencies being part of the JD(S) bastion, the Congress is pulling out all stops to wrest the two seats.

Rajya Sabha bypoll: AICC general secretary BK Hari Prasad filed his nomination papers for the lone Rajya Sabha seat. He’s all set to enter the Upper House unopposed as no other party’s candidate filed the nomination papers on Monday, the last day for it.

The seat fell vacant after Anil Lad resigned after getting elected to assembly from Bellary City. Prasad will be in Parliament only for ten months as the term expires in June 2014.
