Prez nod for two HC permanent benches

High courtNew Delhi, Aug 14, 2013:The permanent benches of the Karnataka High Court in Dharwad and Gulbarga will begin functioning on August 24 and 31, respectively. The President issued a formal order for the establishment of the permanent benches on Wednesday.

According to the order, the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court has been empowered to nominate judges to sit at Dharwad in respect of cases arising in the districts of Bagalkot, Bellary, Belgaum, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada and Koppal; and at Gulbarga in respect of cases arising in the districts of Bidar, Bijapur, Gulbarga and Raichur.

The order also gave discretionary power to the Chief Justice to hear any case or class of cases at Bangalore, irrespective of their origin.
