hiroshima3BANGALORE: As many as 600 children from Mount Litera Zee School in the city came together on August 6 to observe ‘Peace day’ in the memory of the thousands devastated in the Hiroshima bomb atomic blast. Children prepared 600 cranes which were sent to Hiroshima in support of the initiative.

The cranes were accompanied by peace message from the school principal and was placed under the Children’s Peace Memorial. This initiative was undertaken to raise awareness and promote peace among students, schools, communities, states, and nations.

Different initiatives were undertaken by MLZS schools across India. With few schools planting Peace trees, conducting parent’s workshop and guest lectures by Defence officials for students, other MLZS schools initiated a unique step by setting free, the birds and animals from their schools mini zoo. A role play on peace sent out a clear message on spreading peace and harmony in world.

In Japan cranes are often given to sick children as a wish for good health. Paper crane is an ancient origami pattern that symbolizes health and peace. These cranes have become synonymous to world peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons.
