Karnataka to implement CAG recommendations on MNERGA.

BANGALORE: State government has decided to take take corrective steps following the recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on various lapses in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act ( MNREGA), a flagship programme of the Union Government.

Rural development and panchayat raj minister H K Patil has called for administrative reforms that includes upgrading of the directorate for NREGA to the commissionerate.

In the recent CAG report tabled in the legislative assembly, CAG had rapped the state government over large-scale irregularities — running to over Rs 650 crore. The audit report states that the possibility of fraud cannot be ruled out, as about 63.80 lakh individuals identified as ineligible for employment were paid Rs 617.74 crore between 2008 and 2012.
