Bangalore, July 7, 2013, DHNS:

Allegation made by woman with whom he had an affair

A sub-inspector, who is married and has a son, has been suspended from service following a complaint by a 40-year-old woman that he had raped her.

Raghavendra Bhajantri, 32, a native of Gulbarga, was working as a sub-inspector (law and order) at the High Grounds police station in the City. A married woman with whom he reportedly had an affair complained to the senior police officials of the Central Division that he had raped her.

Following the complaint, Bhajantri has been placed under suspension, pending a departmental inquiry, said the police.

The complainant Namratha (name changed), a mother of four and a resident of High Grounds owns a computer training institute in Whitefield. She has alleged that the sub-inspector misused his official position and forced her to have an affair with him.

She claimed that Bhajantri stole her mobile phone and sent text messages to his mobile phone from it, added the police.

Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the higher ups summoned Bhajantri for questioning. He reportedly claimed that he had had an affair with Namratha since February this year and they shared a physical relationship with mutual consent.

He claimed that he never raped her as alleged. He also refuted allegations of mobile phone theft and misusing his authority, police said.

Cheating cases

It all began when Namratha, approached the High Grounds police to lodge a complaint against a few youths who reportedly sent her obscene text messages on her phone early this year.

Bhajantri had reportedly helped her with the case and, subsequently a relationship developed between them.

But, she became furious after he started to move away from her. She turned violent when Bhajantri refused to celebrate his birthday with her and, decided to teach him a lesson, police said.

It is said he tried to distance himself from her as Namratha pressured him to bail her out of some cheating cases registered against her in Whitefield police station. She had started a computer training institute and collected huge sums from candidates assuring them placements. A few candidates had lodged cheating complaints against her after she refused to repay the money, said the police.

“We will thoroughly probe the matter from all angles. We will adopt scientific methods to bring out the truth. There is no question of giving a clean chit to the sub-inspector,” said an officer probing the case.
