BANGALORE: The government on Friday suspended four KC General Hospital staffers — physician Dr Suresh, nurse Lalitha, lab technician Bhagyalakshmi and blood bank official Renuka — pending inquiry, for their alleged negligence in giving wrong blood to an anaemia patient who died on Thursday.
Rajeshwari, 25, a Malleswaram resident, needed blood transfusion every second week and was admitted to hospital last week. She was given B-positive blood instead of O-positive, which was her blood group. Rajeshwari noticed the blunder as the slip on the bottle read B-positive.
Rajeshwari developed complications and was sent to Victoria Hospital, where she died. The family lodged a case of medical negligence against the four hospital staffers with Malleswaram police.
Health Minister UT Khader said he has asked his officials to probe the matter and give a detailed report. But prima facie, there is negligence on the part of hospital, he added. The minister said everyone involved were irresponsible.
