BANGALORE: State home minister KJ George on Monday said that Congress government will not tolerate corrupt police officials.

Distributing stolen articles to its owners in a property parade, George said that only a clean and corrupt-less police department will serve society better. “As of now, state police are among best in country. But we should take them to next level; excellent level. But there is a tiny percentage of corrupt officials and they spoil the name of entire department,” he said.

According to him, crime and related problems will come down by 50% only if police act tough. “We see that sometimes police let lose the criminals even after knowing their antecedents. This should not happen,” he added.

Asked on the interruption into police investigation by a senior political leader who complained to human rights after Bangalore police raided houses of suspected Irani gang members in Bidar last year, George said that chief minister Siddaramaiah has promised a intervention-free investigation hand to police.

Commenting on the ongoing police transfers, George hinted on more transfers soon. “Some changes are to be made in police establishment board. Once it is done, we shall move on,” he added.
