CTYBangalore, July 1:Raghavendra H. Auradkar, who took over as City Police Commissioner in an official ceremony here on Sunday, pitched for decentralisation of power across police divisions for efficiency in the police department.

Mr. Auradkar, who took over from B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji, said he aimed to hand over powers, similar to those given to police districts in the State, to the seven police divisions in the city that are headed by the deputy commissioners of police.

Apart from this, the Commissioner also said that a Crime Records Division would be set up across the seven divisions and additional police personnel would be deployed to monitor them.

Mr. Auradkar batted for community policing, which is in its pilot stage, and hoped for its successful implementation throughout the city. He also stressed on ensuring safety of women in the city.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mirji thanked the Police Department for the support he received during his tenure. He said he was glad that there was no incident of communal violence reported during his tenure. He will be retiring in November, after serving for 36 years in the police force.
