BANGALORE: The CBI on Monday submitted a chargesheet in connection with one of the cases of illegal export of iron ore from Belekeri port, nearly 400km from Bellary.

Former minister G Janardhana Reddy and three others including IFS officer Manoj Kumar Shukla have been named as accused in the case.

The CBI had taken two close confidants of the jailed Reddy, Murali and Srinivas, into custody 10 days ago. On Friday, it had also taken former senior IFS officer Manoj Kumar Shukla into its custody.

Shukla, Murali and Srinivas were produced in the CBI court on Monday and were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

The Supreme Court had directed the CBI in September last year to investigate the illegal export of over 50.79 lakh tonnes of illegally mined iron ore through Belekeri port in Uttara Kannada district. It had indicted the Karnataka government, saying inquiries by its police did not inspire confidence.
