The year 2014 will not be counted as the best year for the Kannada film industry. Many highly anticipated movies have failed to do good at the box office. On the other hand, many viewers have been disheartened by the poor quality of movies. More than 100 movies were released this year in Kannada. However, only a handful have manged to taste success.

The slum in the film industry has been going on for the past many years. Lack of quality and originality in the Kannada movies has left the viewers with no other choice but to watch movies in other languages. While there have been attempts by the new comers this year to improve the quality, the fruits of their efforts are yet to be harvested.

What has hurt the Kannada film industry the most is the failure of some big budgeted movies. Ninnindale starring Puneet Rajkumar and Erica Fernandes failed miserably on the box office. Similarly Upendra starring Brahma was another disappointment for the fans. The movie had an average run at the box office, barely managing to recover the production cost.

Amongst all this disaster, some movies did manage to leave their mark in the film industry. Srimurali starrer Ugramm, directed by new come Prashant Neel has been appreciated by almost everyone. The movie was a massive hit and ran for more than 100 days is many theatres.

Similarly, Rakshit Shetty’s Ulidavaru Kandanthe was a beautifully made movie with excellent cinematography and background score. The movie made on original story had an average run at the box office unfortunately. Many big actors like Sudeep and Prakash Raj were high impressed by the movie.
