HUBLI: A 14-year old minor girl was allegedly raped by a 43-year old person in Belur village of Dharwad taluk.

The accused is absconded from the village when the incident came to light and police have launched a manhunt.

According to a complaint registered at Garag police station by the officials of women and child welfare department, the 14-year-old girl who was staying with her mother and two younger sisters in a small house in Belur village was allegedly raped by one Hanumantappa, resident of the same village.

The complaint said that the victim’s mother was working in the fields as a casual labourer, hailing from Bihar and settled in Belur village a few years back after victim’s father died.

Accused Hanumanthappa who has two children used to frequent the house of the victim and took her out by luring her with freebies.

The victim’s mother came to know about the alleged rape after the girl became pregnant. When inquired, the girl revealed to her mother that she had been abused by Hanumanthappa for several months and he had raped her several times.

The victim’s mother approached the child protection officials seeking justice. Based on the complaint by victim’s mother, officials of the child protection committee rushed to the village, collected the details and then lodged a complaint with the police.

Dharwad rural circle inspector Ramanagouda Hatti said that they are searching for Hanumanthappa, who is at large.

It may be recalled here that two minor girls were allegedly raped at Chikkamalligawad and Aminabhavi villages of Dharwad taluk earlier this year.
