Sari vendor kidnaps, rapes 13-year-old schoolgirl

rape21211Bangalore: A 13-year-old girl was kidnapped and allegedly raped by a sari vendor near Mallathahalli under Jnanabharathi police station limits on Tuesday.

The victim, a resident of Mariyappanapalya and Class VIII student, was detained illegally and raped by the accused Saravana, a resident of Mallathahalli and native of Tamil Nadu.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, Kumar, helper in a private van that picks and drops the girl, on Tuesday, dropped her in Saravana’s house.

Saravana raped the girl at around 3 pm and dropped her near the school, police said.
The parents noticed their daughter outside the school and questioned her. The girl then revealed that she had been raped.

They approached the police and registered a complaint. Both Kumar and Saravana were taken into custody and booked for kidnap, rape, illegal detention and under provisions of POCSO Act. The police are yet to identify the role of Kumar in the incident.

Student hangs himself

Jagadish Pandey, 23, a native of Chhattisgarh, pursuing his engineering, committed suicide as his parents objected to his proposal to marry his girlfriend. He hanged himself in his hostel room on the premises of BMS Engineering College under the Hanumanth Nagar police limits.

Pandey was pursuing Computer Science and was in the 5th semester. On Monday at 5.30 pm, he returned to his hostel room after finishing his classes. At 7.30 pm, his hostelmates knocked on his door to call him for dinner. When they received no response, they informed the warden. They broke open the door and found Pandey hanging.

They alerted the police who visited the spot and found a note purportedly written by Pandey, stating that no one was responsible for his death and that he had taken the extreme step as his parents were opposed to his marriage with his classmate, the police said. A case has been registered.

Two killed in accidents

Two people were killed in separate accidents in Yeshwantpur and Malleswaram traffic police station limits.

On Monday evening, Pritham, 20, a student of Vivekananda College and resident of Kurubarahalli, came under the wheels of a BMTC bus attached to the Kengeri bus depot.

The incident took place while Pritham was returning home after college. He was trying to board a bus near Iskcon Temple bus stop.

As he stepped on the footboard, the driver moved the vehicle, resulting in Pritham falling off the bus and coming under its wheels.

Passengers alerted the driver to stop the bus and shifted the student to a nearby hospital and informed his parents and the police.

The police have seized the bus and arrested the driver Madhu Kumar. Pritham succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning, the police said.

Man run over

In another incident, Mallappa, a native of Bagalkot, was knocked down by a lorry near APMC Yard under the Yeshwantpur traffic police limits on Tuesday morning.

Mallappa had come to the yard on a personal errand. While standing in the yard, a lorry coming in the reverse direction knocked him down. Mallappa, who suffered head injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead. The police are trying to trace the lorry and its driver.

Bail refused for accused in Vibgyor case

The First Additional Sessions Court on Tuesday refused bail to Waseem Pasha, a gym instructor accused of raping a minor girl in Vibygor High school.

Pasha, 28, and Lal Giri, a security guard at the school were arrested in connection with the incident and lodged at the Central Prisons in Parappana Agrahara. The court denied the bail citing the seriousness of the case, a senior police officer said. He said that the charge sheet against the two would be submitted to the court at the earliest.
