The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who is lodged in Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara after her conviction in wealth case, refrained from participating in the Dasara celebrations at the prison. She has reportedly asked her former Cabinet colleagues and supporters to not visit her.

According to the prison officials, Ms. Jayalalithaa spent her day reading newspapers and going for a morning walk as part of her routine. She refused to meet politicians from Tamil Nadu.

She has met other convicts in the disproportionate assets case — V.N. Sudhakaran, Sasikala and Elavarasi — on four occasions since September 27.

According to a senior officer, many politicians including MPs, Ministers, MLAs and supporters from Tamil Nadu have been visiting the prison everyday with a hope of meeting their leader.

On Saturday too, several supporters were waiting on the prison premises.

However, Ms. Jayalalithaa has sent out a message to her supporters not to come to meet her. She also appealed to Tamil Nadu citizens to maintain peace in the State.
