Three women were killed on the spot and two others were injured when a speeding van collided with the two motorcycles they were travelling by in Doddaballapura on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Sarojamma (25), Gouramma (30) and Prabha (28). The injured, Gangadhar and Rajanna, who were riding the bikes, sustained injuries and were rushed to Victoria Hospital for treatment. While Rajanna and Prabha were on a motorcycle; Gangadhar, Sarojamma and Gouramma were riding triple, the police said.
According to the police, the victims are relatives and residents of Bashettihalli.
The driver of the van abandoned his vehicle after the accident. The Doddaballapura Rural police have registered a case of hit-and-run against the driver and are trying to track him down.
