Street Dogs menace- Special measures undertaken: MCC Mayor in a special meeting

Mangalore, August 09th: The Mayor Mr Marla has said, throughout the area which comes under the Mangalore City Corporation special measures have been taken to control the menace of the stray dogs:  but it could not bring about a change due to the negligence of the duty by the officials.

Mayor addressed the gathering in a special meeting which was held at the Mayors Chamber regarding the stray dogs attack on a two year old kid, who was badly injured at Kudroli area of the city.
He said, prior to 2013 hunting the stray dogs and operating them were carried by different individuals. Later both the responsibilities were carried out by the same person and hence they are unable to get the correct number.

Mayor added currently, the Animal care trust at Shakthi Nagar is carrying out the birth control operation and they are not able to provide a satisfactory answer.

Mayor Mr Marla has instructed the Health officer Dr Manjaiah Shetty to provide the details regarding the surgery and the number of the street dogs coming under the corporation during the Malaria meeting which is to be held on August 12th at the corporation. Ms Suma from the Animal care trust stated that, the publics are bringing the puppies to the market area and leaving them there. This is the reason for the increase in number of the stray dogs.

Every month, birth control operations are carried on a number of 200 dogs and dogs suffering fron diseases are treated until they are cured and only then they are let off he added.

When Mr Marla said a person from Yekkur had called and informed that the The Animal Care Trust is collecting the charges to catch the street dogs, Ms Suma replied; the money is collected only when the public offer them on their own interest. President Mr Purushothma said in order to control the stray dogs, planning should be adopted like a movement.

Dog Census: According to the information, under the Mangalore city corporation during the year 2012; the number of street dogs was 2352 and the number of pet dogs was 12388.

According to information given to the Corporator Mr Prakash Salyan, since 2010 to July2014 7,709 dogs have been operated for birth control. Sub Mayor Ms Kavitha, Mr Sashidhar Hegde,opposition party leader Mr Premananda Shetty, Standing Committee President  Mr Ashok D.K, Mr Ashok Shetty were present in the meeting.

Hubli Dharwad animal Control Method:

Under the corporation limits, prominence will be given to the public and children but not to the dogs. Hence measures taken to control the pigs at Hubli and Dharwad will be adopted here stated the mayor at the end of the meeting.
