Mangalore, Jul 12: A tempo transporting 32 cattle illegally was seized after it rammed into an auto rickshaw, a car and an electric pole at Bejai here on Saturday July 12 morning.
Sources said that two cows died due to impact and some other cows are in a serious condition. The cattle were later seized by the police.
The accident caused when the tempo first hit an auto rickshaw near KSRTC and sped away without stopping. However, in a bid to escape, it again rammed into a Ford Figo car at Bejai, before hitting an electric pole.
The tempo was reportedly escorted by persons on bikes who were said to be carrying sharp weapons. However, on seeing the crowds gather, the tempo driver and his accomplices, altogether six people including the escorts, escaped from the spot. The locals who witnessed the accident gathered at the spot and tried to catch the culprits.
A case has been registered by Barke police.
