Udupi: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with Shankarnarayana police station was arrested against the charges of molesting a woman commuter in a bus in Gangolli.
Police said that the suspect was traveling to Gangolli from Trasi. The complainant, who boarded the same bus in Trasi, alleged that the ASI molested her while she was standing holding her baby in the bus. She lodged the complaint with the Gangolli police station.
Sources told Deccan Herald that the accused was arrested and is being charged under IPC Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
Inquiry was held and the case was transferred to the women’s police station in Kundapur. The accused is remanded in judicial custody till June 30. ASI Devraj, transferred to Kundapur, was in the joining period.
