Mangalore : As many as 15 jail staff who were appointed in District Jail on Saturday, June 14 joined their duty on Sunday, June 15. With the problem of shortage of jail staff has been resolved for the time being.
The strength of the jail staff has now increased to 35. There are 350 under trials and one staff has been assigned for each ten under trials.
On Sunday, June 8 clashes erupted between the policemen and the under trials while two under trials were being transferred. Several policemen including ACP Thilakchandra were injured in the incident. Later when investigation into the incident was carried out by the prisons department officials, they ordered for appointment of more jail staff.
