Mangalore International Airport: Gold worth Rs 54 lakh found in passenger’s shoes

Mangalore, Jun 4: Two gold bars, each weighing one kg were seized from a passenger, who was carrying it in his shoes. The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport conducted this operation on Tuesday June 3.

Ibrahim Khaleel Kunil, a resident of Kasargod, is the passanger who arrived at the airport on June 3 at around 10 pm by Air India Express flight IX 384 from Dubai.

The gold bars, altogether worth Rs 54.2 lac, were found concealed inside the shoes of the passenger.

Ibrahim was later arrested and produced before N S Patil, principal civil judge, senior division and chief judicial magistrate, Mangalore. The judge remanded him in judicial custody till June 17.

Operations were conducted under the supervision of Pravin Vinod, assistant commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport.
Police are conducting further investigations.
