Contaminated water released in Karmbikere pond, kills large number of fish

Mangalore, May 7: The locals of Jeppinamogaru are panic due to the death of fish in large number at Karmbikere pond.

According to the locals, the reason for the death of fish is caused due to the release of drainage water, which contaminated the pond water. Apart from it, several cases of malaria and dengue have been also reported in the past.

Although the Mangalore city Corporation have released and spent the amount of Rs 25 lakhs for the development of the pond, the differences between MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde and Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo, the pond has been remained neglected.

They also said that even when the pond was getting renovated, the drainage waster was being released deliberately and the place was stinking. They urged the Corporation to immediately act on the issue, since it would harm their as well as their children’s health.

Speaking on the occasion, local corporator Surendra said that even though MCC commissioner has visited the spot thrice in the past, he has not directed the officials to clean the pond.

MLA JR Lobo who is currently in Shimoga  said that he would visit the place as soon as he return to Mangalore and will direct the Commissioner to take measures to redress the problem.
