Mangalore, April 29: A full scale emergency mock exercise was carried out at Mangalore International Airport on Tuesday, April 29.
The conducting of the exercise is mandatory as per DGCA regulations and it is to be carried out once in 2 years. This exercise is mainly carried out to test the efficiency and familiarization to Airport Authority of India, CSIF, Airlines operations and external agencies like City fire brigade, Health department, Hospitals, Police personnel etc.
An aircraft model was used for the purpose of this exercise. The situation deemed as an Aircraft crashed with about 60 passengers at outside the Airport premises. AAI fire brigade attended and city fire brigade joined for fire extinguishing and rescue services. The victims from the tragic area were picked up by the hospital teams for the treatment. CISF and Police personnel extended their service for barricades and roads etc.
There was utilization of 2 fire engines from Airport Fire service and 3 fire engines from City fire brigade for this purpose.
The whole exercise was carried out with the cooperation of Shri Manjunath Nodal officer, District Disaster Management committee and District administration.
Shri J.T. Radhakrishna, Airport Director lead the total teams to carry out the exercise successfully. Shri T.F. Moosa and Shri Nanda Kumar Koolath and others have participated.
