Lok Sabha poll campaigning to close today by 6 pm: ADC Sadashiva Prabhu

Mangalore, April 15: As per the order of Election Commiision, the campaign by the various political parties for the upcoming Lok Sabha election scheduled on April 17, comes to an end on April 15, Tuesday at 6 pm.

Speaking at a press meet on April 14, Monday, Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu said that the campaigning will be closed before 48 hours of polling, hence all the political leaders including star campaigners from outside the constituency must return to their  respective places.

He also said that authorities have issued second notice to Swapan Bhattacharya, director of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) with regard to campaign by BJP leader Ananth Kumar with their students, since the reply from the college registrar for the first and second notice was not satisfactory, the Election Commission will initiate action against them.

The flying squad has registered FIR at Surathkal police station against Ananth Kumar, Rajani Dugganna, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Yogish Bhat for violating model code of conduct by holding campaign inside an educational institution, he said.

The DC has also issued a notice to all government undertaking organisations, government and private educational institutions, labour organizations, malls, shops, hotels and business establishments to allow its employees to exercise their franchise, and if they fail to do so, strict action will be taken against them, he added.

So far a total of 137 complaints has been received in regard to violation of model code of conduct, he said.
