Life sentence slapped to a man convicted in murder of Retired Army man

Mangalore, April 21: It was reported that Udipi fast track court on April 20, Saturday handed a man to life imprisonment along with a fine, who was accused in the murder of a retired army man in 2010.

The man named Dharmendra Sharma alias Om Prakash (39), a native of Delhi was convicted in connection with the murder of a retired army person identified as Taniyappa, aged 56 from Bommarabettu and  who was survived by wife Sumana and children.

As per the information gathered, Om Prakash being the relative of Sumana was staying in their house as a guest for some days prior to the murder. Enraged by the flirting/excessive talk of Om Prakash with Sumana, Taniyappa had asked Prakash to leave the house.

Angered by the approach of Taniyappa, Om Prakash hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Taniyappa and entered his house on September 16, 2010 at around 10.30 pm and killed him with a sickle. After considering various aspects of the case and all the witnesses favoring Taniyappa, Om Prakash has been awarded a life sentence and imposed a fine of Rs.10, 000 by Udipi fast track court.

The case was fought by public prosecutor T S Jituri and after thorough investigation by then Brahmavar circle inspector G.Krishnamurthy, charge sheet had been submitted to the court, sources said.
