Beltangady, Mar 24: The team of CBI on Sunday March 23, arrived at the crime spot at Pangala near Dharmasthala, where Sowjanya was raped and murdered one-and-a-half years ago
The three-member team from Chennai also visited Sowjanya’s parents to investigate about her death and said that they will conduct thorough investigation from March 24, Monday.
It is recalled that after a series of protests led by Mahesh Thimarodi of Prajaprabhutva Vedike and Sri Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji of Kemar Math and requests from leaders including MLAs Vasanth Bangera and Shakuntala Shetty, Dr D Veerendra Heggade had urged the government to hand over the case to the CBI in November 2013.
Prior to CBI, government had first handed over the case to CID, which submitted 15 page reports after a year, which claimed Santosh Rao was the accused and gave clean chit to Dr Veerendra Heggade’s nephew Nischal Jain, his friend Mallik Jain, Uday Kella and Dheeraj Jain, who were suspected by the victim’s parents.
Although the state government announced CBI inquiry into the case, the supporters continued to protest, since the probe did not begin.
