MANGALORE: Union petroleum and natural gas minister M Veerappa Moily dubbed N Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker and BJP nominee for the Mangalore City South constituency, as the most irresponsible MLA he had come across.
He was instrumental in demolishing the 163 year old Lady Goschen Hospital trusting the assurance of mining mafia minister Janardhan Reddy, two years back. Now ONGC-MRPL has come to fund the construction of the building at a cost of Rs 21 crore. Bhat could not even get a single paisa from the state government for the hospital which handles majority of delivery cases in the region. It clearly reflects on his abilities,’ taunted Moily.
He also ridiculed Bhat for claiming that Congress’ Mangalore City South nominee JR Lobo had suppressed facts in his affidavit filed before K Srikanth Rao, returning officer, pertaining to a case filed against him by N R Rai of Bangalore before the Karnataka Lokayukta. Moily said: The integrity of Lobo cannot be questioned. Later in the day, B Janardhan Poojary also ridiculed Bhat by saying that he did not know what all facts need to be mentioned in the affidavit filed before the returning officer.
Pointing out at the state of affairs in the last five years, Moily said both BJP and JD(S) should own responsibility for the maladministration in the state. In fact, JD(S) laid the foundation stone for the whole chain of events by joining hands with the BJP. Without the help of JD(S), BJP would have never come to power in the south,” he said. Both parties will have to bear the millstone around the neck and will sink under its own weight in the polls, Moily noted.
This poll will decide where BJP exists, if at all. The original party has split into three factions. Even before the split we won the Udupi-Chikmagalur by poll hands down. Things have got worse in the BJP now,” he said..
Taking on corruption in the BJP government, Moily said the share value of MLAs had gone up during their regime after Operation Kamala.
Terming CT Ravi or ‘Koti’ Ravi, Moily said during Congress tenure there were only seven to eight universities. Ravi bestowed deemed status 32 universities and the going rate was reportedly Rs 15 to Rs 20 crore per university,” he alleged.
Moily assured that when Congress comes to power, they will implement the recommendations in Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde report. When this is done all hundreds of officials, BJP MLAs and the ministers involved will be behind bars,” he said.
Taunting the BJP administration, Moily said: Before BJP came to power, I was proudly saying that I was the former CM of Karnataka. Now I dread to say that. BJP has severely affected the credibility of the state and its people. When I fear to associate myself with the state, what about its people?
