Mangalore, Mar 3: Mangalore city has supported the bandh called against Yettinahole project in myriad ways on March 3, Monday.
Various organizations and Karavali Jeevanadi Netravati Samrakshana Samiti staged protest at various places and burnt the effigies of former CM Sadananda Gowda and union minister Dr Veerappa Moily.
Addressing the protestors, Former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty said that None of the bandh in the district has ever witnessed such a massive support and this is the most significant in the history of Dakshina Kannada.
He also said that Buses and auto rickshaws stayed off the roads, shops, business establishments, school and colleges remained shut and there is no doubt that this was the most successful bandh. He also burnt copies of the detailed project report (DPR) of Yettinahole project.
Further too such a struggle to save Netravati river will be continued by staging more protests in the coming days, he added.
P V Mohan, Denis D’Silva, T K Sudhir, Ramanand Bolar, Dinakar Shetty, Shashiraj Shetty Kolambe, M G Hegde, Jayakar Samarth, Nemiraj Shetty, Uttham Alva, Yogeesh Shetty Jeppu, Dr Annayya Kulal and others were present.
