“Lions rural community service is commendable” : Rev. Fr. Andrew Leo D’souza

Mangalore / Pakshikere: “The rural community service particularly in the field of healthcare rendered by the ladies voluntary service organisation is commendable and worth emulated by others”, opined Rev. Fr. Andrew Leo D’souza, Parish Priest of St. Jude’s Church, Pakshikere. He was speaking after inaugurating the “Free Eye Check-up & Spectacles Donation Camp” organised by the Lions Club Mangalore Cauvery jointly with St. Jude Church and Catholic Sabha Pakshikere on 23.02.2014 at St. Jude K.G. School Hall, Pakshikere.

Ln. Kripa Alva, Past Dist Governor was speaking as a chief guest stated that the Lions Club is always in the forefront in the service of the rural community and added that all should take benefit of this free camp.

President of Lions Club Mangalore Cauvery Ln. Shamitha Sanjay revealed that during the mega eye check up camp cataract surgery and free spectacles donations will be held, and people should come forward to pledge their eyes for the blind, which is a very noble cause, she added.

Dr. Sunaina Bhat, Ophthalmologist and her team from Fr. Muller’s Hospital Mangalore volunteered their services during the free check up camp. About 110 free spectacles were distributed and 20 patients were advised for cataract surgery and 35 people pledged their eyes. About 150 people participated in the camp.

Earlier, Secretary of Catholic Sabha Mrs. Lucy D’sozua welcomed, later President of Catholic Sabha Mr. John Fernandes proposed a vote of thanks. Ln. Ronald Colaco coordinated.  Lion Club members Dr. Priyadarshini, Faheema Ibrahim, Anuradha Rao, Kavitha Phalke, Florine Flevy assisted during the camp.

Lions Club Mangalore Cauvery is the only ladies voluntary service organisation comprising of 50 members who are very active in community service.
