Custom officials busted two gold smuggling cases at Mangalore Airport

Mangalore, Feb 18: In another case of modus operandi, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport arrested two passengers in two different cases and seized gold totally weighing 789.950 grams valued at Rs 24,09,347 on February 18, Tuesday.

In the first case, the officers arrested passenger named Jaiyafar Chala Muhammed Kunhi Haji, a resident of Vidyanagar, Kasaragod and seized gold weighing 351.350 grams of worth Rs 10,71,617, concealed in a cream wafer tin and a marker pen wrapped in a carton.

Jaiyafar had arrived at Mangalore International Airport by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai on February 18 at around 5.30 am.

Whereas in the second case, officers arrested Noushad Mouval, a resident of Thachangad House, Pallikere, Kasaragod and seized gold weighing 438.600 grams and valued at Rs 13,37,730 concealed in a form of 18 sets of gold hook holders and hook bar holders for trousers, coated with silver colour paint hidden in a carton box.

Noushad had arrived at Mangalore International Airport by Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai on Tuesday at around 7.30 am.
