Two city Girls creates history!! Brought laurels to Mangalore

Mangalore, April 16: The two city girls, Seeliya Simmith and Avani S Kumar have won awards at the international level in the sport.

Both of them have taken a part in the short track speed skating form of ice skating at the “World Development Trophy”-2013” held in Singapore organized by the International skating Union and won silver and bronze medals respectively.

Out of the five represented India in the events-two girls are from Mangalore, one boy and one girl from Maharashtra and a boy from Bangalore.

Seeliya Simmith,a 10th class student from Lourdes Central School,Bejai is the daughter of P A Mohammed and Asma,a resident of Pandeshwar.Sources said she had been taking training in roller skating for the last seven years. Besides she was also taken training in ice skating from Shimla in almost-2 degrees and from Leh Ladak, Kashmir, in nearly-30 degrees.

Avani  S  Kumar, a seventh standard student from St.Theresa School,daughter of Suresh Kumar and Sundari,a resident of Kadri Vyasa Nagar.She has been training from six years and attended ice-skating camp in December-2012 in Shimla and won the gold medal in the event and got selected to this international event.

Both these girls are the students of Mangalore Roller Skatting Club and being trained by Mahesh Kumar.
