Bhat, Lobo, Palemar, Shetty, Abhayachandra among 32 candidates filed nominations in DK

MANGALORE: The Election Commission received 48 nominations from 32 candidates for the eight assembly segments in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday which is considered as an auspicious day as per the almanac.

With this, the total number of nominations received from Mangalore City North, Mangalore City South, Mangalore, Moodbidri, Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady constituencies touched 56.

Prominent leaders who filed nomination papers include former district in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar, deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat and Congress leader JR Lobo.

Palemar along with party workers submitted his nomination papers to Mangalore Urban Development Authority commissioner S Ajith Kumar Hegde, while Bhat and Lobo submitted nominations to Mangalore City Corporation joint commissioner Srikanth Rao.

All the three candidates sought the blessings of the deity at Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple in the city prior to the filing nominations.

Lobo, being a Catholic, too offered prayers at Kudroli temple along with MLA UT Khader, who will be filing nominations to contest from Mangalore constituency on April 17, the last to file papers.Yogish-Bhat-Nomination_8

Other prominent leaders filed nomination on Monday include Congress leader K Abhayachandra, JD(S) leader K Amarnath Shetty (both from Moodbidri), B Raghu from Sullia, BJP leader Chandrahas Ullal from Mangalore constituency.

Former MLA K Kushala Bellare, who was elected twice from Sullia, filed four sets of nominations to contest from the same constituency this time.

Kushala, who was denied ticket to contest from Congress, had recently joined Karnataka Janatha Paksha (KJP). While he filed two sets of nomination papers as KJP candidate, remaining are submitted as independent.
