Shirva: Sexual pestering of female student; Shirva bandh, attack by Bajarangadal; tight security

Udupi; Jan 20: Condemning the sexual harassment to female student in bus,Sangha Parivar organized a Shirva Bandh on Jan 20,Monday.At the same time, it was reported that  Bajaranga Dal activists attacked bus owner and driver, which is why  around 100 people from two groups assembled near Shirva Masjid at around 01.00 pm.Atmosphere was tense. Immediately police who arrived to the spot, acted swiftly and by dispersing the crowd, brought the situation under control. Presently Shirva market is peaceful and however tight security has been arranged.

Victim of the attack, Belapu Muhammed Hasim, aged 34, owner of Brain bus and driver Muhammed Hanif are undergoing treatment now in Ajjarakadu government hospital. After finishing their Udupi-Padubelle bus trip, when they were taking lunch in the hotel, around 12.00 in the noon, more than 150 Bajaranga Dal activists came in their bike and attacked them with rods and hands, they complained. Not only we, other buses also they were trapping. They assaulted targeting only at us. After bringing us along with bus to Shankarapura, activists pressurized us to come to Shirva market. When we didn’t agreed for that, they threatened us by saying, if you don’t come to Shirva market, two of you, will be burnt alive along with bus.Freightening to this, we brought the bus to Shirva market. They were guarding our bus from front and behind, they informed.

As we reached near Shirva Masjid, for our life’s protection stopped our bus and rushed inside the masjid.There also they followed us with rods and sabres and threatened us. In this, Shirva bus time keeper Ramesh Mohan, bus driver Babu,Madhu,Girish,Santhu,Girish Sooda including more than  150 people were there, they alleged.

A case has been registered in Shirva police station. Condemning the incident, in the wake of Sangha Parivar’s call for Shirva market bandh, front doors of all the shops were closed.School, colleges, buses, tempos, autorickshaws movement came to grinding halt. Condemning the sexual pestering of female student Sangha Parivar staged a protest in Shirva market.

Addressing the protestors, BJP leader Mattar Ratnakara Hegde said in his address that assault, attack, improbity on Hindus are repeating every now and then. But government is engaged in impressing one community, he alleged.Vishwa Hinu parishat’s district president Bykady Suprasad Shetty, Bajaranga Dal’s Sunil Kumar and among others were present.

In the wake of Bandh, heavy police security was arranged. Additional police superintendent Santhosh Kumar, Karkala sub-police superintendent Annamalai, Inspctors like Sunil Nayak, Maruti Nayak, Arun Nayak, Rajendra Nayak, camped in the place only. Three DAR police teams have been formed.

Demanded action against Mattar:

In the organized Shirva bandh protest, BJP prominent leader Ratnakara Hegde’s provocative speech was the root cause for the Shirva unrest. Therefore demanded an action against Ratnakar, said Udupi district Muslim Vokkoota president M.P.Mohiuddinabba.

Attack on bus owner and driver is condemnable. Immediately accused should be arrested. In order to protect peace, police should take an adequate measure, he said in his release.
