Duo from West Bengal nabbed for distributing fake currency notes

Mangalore, Jan 20: Mangalore city police nabbed two persons for distributing fake Indian currency notes in Katipall area under the limits of Suratkal police station.

The arrested are identified as Sushanth Mandal aged 20, son of Binoy Mandal, and Sharath Mandal aged 19, son of Naresh Mandal,both hailing from Maldah district in West Bengal.

Addressing the press meet held at Commissionerate Office on Jan 20, Monday, Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hithendra said that the duo who have been nabbed on Jan 20, Monday had arrived Mangalore from West Bengal with the sole intention of distributing fake currency notes of higher denomination in the region.

The duo were arrested red handed by the Suratkal police, as per the information provided by the shop owner at Katipalla, who had received the fake note of Rs 1000 on purchase of one bottle juice.

It is learnt that the duo had rented a room in Katipalla, Suratkal and used to purchase small items from various shop and take change by giving fake currencies of higher denomination.

The police have seized a total of 81 fake notes of Rs 1000 denomination and 23 fake notes of Rs 500 from the duo. Apart from it, they have seized the real currency notes of Rs 40,420 collected from taking change from the shops.

The serial numbers of the fake notes seized from the duo are 5GR, 8GQ, 3DV, 6AR, 1CG, 5KF, 1EQ, 4KM, 5TC, 3TE, 9HR, 7DD, 2CH, 9FC and 2FR.

On interrogation, they revealed that Saleem hailing from Maldah district in West Bengal had gven them the fake notes for distribution in Mangalore.
