Mangalore, Jan 16, 2014: In another shocking incident of moral policing, two engineering students of different communities were attacked by Hindu activists at the Suratkal beach on January 15, Wednesday morning.
Though the victims have hesitated to lodge a complaint, the Mangalore City Police Commissioner has directed the Suratkal police to voluntarily register a complaint and investigate the case.
It is learnt, the young pair, both students of a prestigious engineering college in the outskirts of the city, had arrived at the beach by a scooter. Sources, say some members of the Jagarana Vedike who noticed the young pair assaulted both of them. Reportedly, it is learnt, after the incident, the assailants repented their action of assaulting the girl, when they came to know that she was the daughter of a BJP worker and relative of a BJP leader of Vittal.
Meanwhile, the police who rushed to the spot took the students to the station where their parents were summoned and the two later let free.It is learnt, the male student was from Bajpe.
Reacting on the incident, Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra said the victims were hesitant to lodge a complaint. Therefore the Suratkal police have been asked to voluntarily register a complaint and investigate the case. He also said he would talk to the victim students separately.
