Mangalore: A fifty five year old patient from Udupi who suffered a major heart attack, landed in one of the grave complication called of ventricular septal rupture. Surgical correction is the only option for most such case but carried a very high mortality

He was taken up for emergency surgery.  Large part of interventricular septum was ruptured due to damage to heart muscle following heart attack and had multiple openings.  Defect was corrected with double patch technique using artificial patches and bypass graft for occluded coronary vessels.

Post operation recovery was smooth and patient was discharged within one week.  Patient is doing well in the first follow up.
