AAP DK Unit invites suggestions to chalk out Mangalore Manifesto

Mangalore, Jan 2, 2013: In view of the forthcoming 2014 general elections, the Aam Aadmi Party has invited suggestions from general public to formulate a comprehensive Manifesto for the Mangalore Lok Sabha Constituency. Citizens of Dakshina Kannada can send their views and suggest action plans with regard to infrastructure, healthcare, education, trade, commerce and industry. Suggestions can be sent to aapdkunit@gmail.com which will be consolidated to frame the manifesto specifically to the district.

This is an exercise which is first of its kind in the constituency and will help the Aam Aadmi Party to understand the needs and aspiratio Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Jan 2, Thursday, AAP district convener Dharmendra, said that following the success of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, the mood is upbeat among the people of the country and the same trend is seen in Mangalore also. The District unit of the party is eagerly awaiting to utilize the opportunity to contest for the Lok Sabha elections this year. The party has already started working on strengthening the membership base at the grass root level.

Dakshina Kannada unit of Aam Aadmi Party will take up serious issues that are bothering the district and work out strategies to address the same. Some of the issues include:

1. Gas connections being denied due to lack of Aadhar Card, despite the supreme court order that Aadhar Card is not mandatory. The highhandedness of the Gas Agencies amounts to contempt of court and highly deplorable.

2. Women’s Security: The number of incidents of eve teasing, sexual assault and other crimes are on the rise in the district. AAP will soon discuss the issue with concerned authorities to chalk out an appropriate solution on the issue. AAP will persist on its demand for CBI Inquiry in Sowjanya Murder Case and also stern action against the criminal elements involved in the kidnap and rape of a student at Deralakatte.

3. AAP Strongly opposes the Yettinahole Project which will render the Nethravathi river completely depleted causing devastating impact on the coastal eco-system and also on the Western Ghats which is considered among global ecological hot spots. AAP demands staying the tendering process of the works to be undertaken as part of the project and constitute a neutral experts committee comprising of environmental sciences and strategists who will study and assess the actual impact of the project.

4. AAP demands for immediate constitution of Ward Committees in the Mangalore City Corporation as per the provisions of the law so as to ensure better functioning of the corporation machinery. AAP will soon discuss the issue with the Deputy Commissioner who is presently the Administrator of MCC.

5. AAP demands a White Paper on KUDCEMP (Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Project) funded by the Asian Development Bank. The authorities including the present MLA Mr. J R Lobo who was the Deputy Director of KUDCEMP in Mangalore, should answer to an array of questions regarding the present status of the works under the project, the amount spent, the repayment terms and conditions and the burden of the tax-paying citizens of Mangalore.

6. AAP strongly opposes the establishment of environmentally unfriendly Niddodi Power Plant project near Moodabidri and demands the state and the union government to conduct a public hearing on the project. It is also demanded that the MLAs and MPs representing our district should speak out their stand on the project.

7. AAP empathizes with the Areca Growers in the district who are likely to be affected due to the central policies and will study the pros and cons before working out a solution in this regard.

The party is committed to fight corruption and mal-administration which are the basic tenets of the party and will chalk out a comprehensive action plan to sweep the prevalent corruption in different Government offices.

The district unit of Aam Aadmi Party underwent a reshuffle recently at its executive committee meeting. The core committee of the district unit is: Convener – Dharmendra ; Joint Convener – Harsha Samrajya ; Secretary – Rohan Shiri ; Joint Secretary – Ajay Kumar and Treasurer – Sulochana Hegde. The party has nominated district advisory committee member, S Nandagopal as the District Spokesperson along with the Convener and Secretary authorized to address the media in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Public Membership Drive Meeting

Aam Aadmi Party DK Unit will hold its public meeting to mobilize and speed up its membership drive at BEM High School, Car Street in the city on January 12, Sunday at 10.30 am. The party expects citizens from across the district to attend the meeting. State Convener of AAP, Siddharth Sharma from Bangalore will address the party workers on the occasion.

Spokesperson Nandagopal, Joint advisory convenor Harsha Samraj and joint secretary Ajay Kumar were present.
