UDUPI: Former MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty, who is contesting as an independent, from Kundapur constituency said that a stable government in the state is necessary.
This statement of him at a press conference held on Friday gave inkling that Shetty may be inclined to join BJP in future. Though Shetty was humiliated by BJP by not giving him a ministerial berth in the Jagadish Shettar cabinet, he said that he would decide on the future course of action considering the political situation that prevails after the election.
Shetty said that his decision of contesting independently came after consulting his supporters and voters. Shetty will get the poll symbol to contest on April 20.
Meanwhile JD(S) district president Deviprasad Shetty on Friday told reporters that JD(S) will support Halady Srinivas Shetty by not fielding a JD(S) candidate in Kundapur. While BJP has announced its official candidate Kishor Kumar, Congress is fielding Malyadi Shivaram Shetty.
Halady had won from the seat for three times continuously. He defeated Congress candidate K Jayaprakash Hegde by a margin of 25,083 votes in 2008 assembly elections.
