Amiya Meethal, Moodbidri, December 20, 2012, DHNS: The government of Karnataka will provide all kinds of assistance, including financial aid to Nudsiri-Virasat event, said Kannada and culture Minister Umashree. “It is the duty of government to support such events which provide a big promotional platform to the cause of Kannada language, literature and culture,” she noted while delivering the inaugural address of the cultural programme of Alva’s Vishwa Nudsiri Virasat 2013 at Vidyagiri here on Friday.
The minister added that all through these years of the programme, Dr Mohan Alva, the man who is behind the venture has not requested any assistance from government side. “Though I am into film field since 35 years and in politics for the last 19 years, I did not have an opportunity to become a part of Virasat,” she regretted.
On the occasion, Alva’s Vishwa Virasat Award 2013 was conferred on renowned Pandwani artiste from Chhattisgarh, Dr Teejan Bai. Pandwani is a folklore kind of devotional art, rendering stories from the epics with background music.
Speaking after receiving the felicitation, Teejan Bai rued the fact that today there is no Krishna to come and help Draupadi at the time of the ordeal where her dignity and pride are being harassed. For the art enthusiasts who throng the ground of Vidyagiri, she rendered Pandwani with the theme of gambling in Mahabharatha in her gentle voice without background score that struck the audience in awe. The indignation of Draupadi and the dilemma of Dharmaputhrar amidst the laughter of Kauravas during the gambling episode came alive in front of the art connoisseurs who heard Teejan Bai in rapt attention.
Nitte Education Trust President Dr N Vinay Heggade presided over. Minister for Fisheries and Sports Abhayachandra Jain, MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Rajkumar (Kannada Sangha Bahrain), art enthusiasts from US and Germany Edwin and Peter among others were present.
