Shri Jayaprakash Hegde urges Medical Fraternity to create awareness in the villages through awareness programmes

 Manipal;Nov 03: Inaugurating the Cardiology Update 2013, Shri Jayaprakash Hegde, Honorable MP of Udupi Chikamagalur, Govt of India wished everyone a Happy Karnataka Rajyotsava. Shri Jayaprakash Hegde Said that “unless patient is confident, recovery is difficult”. He gave his example when he had undergone a bypass surgery and had started working confidently within 1 month after the surgery. Many patients use to complain, in the good old past, that doctors do to not give sufficinet information regarding health.  Shri Hegde urged the Doctors to conduct awareness talks on Hypertension and its affects to the public in villages. Prevention is better than cure, he added. Shri Jayaprakash Hegde Appreciated the Dept of Cardiology for organizing such type of advanced programmes every year taking place every year.

 Dr Vinod Bhat – Pro Vice Chancellor , Manipal University said that “Hypertension has become a serious issue today”, and is increasing day by day. Doctors have to look beyond patient care.Feels that KH Manipal and Cardiology Department has to develop a cohort to understand the lifestyle diseases and should create awareness programmes to the public and measures to control Hypertension, heart diseases and other non-communicable diseases.

 DrPradeep Kumar –Dean, KMC Manipal said that “Professionalism is very important in life to develop punctuality. Doctors should also know the economy and must know how much a patient can afford .Measures have to be taken to control Hypertension and other heart diseases and the doctors should create awareness on Hypertension and heart diseases to the general public. Complimented Cardiology Dept for conducting cardiology update every year .

 Dr Padmakumar – Professor and HOD Dept of Cardiology, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal welcomed the gathering and Dr Ranjan Shetty Organising Secretary and Associate Professor, Dept of Cardiology, Kasturba Ho proposed the vote of thanks.

There were about 400 delegates, mainly physicians, from Udupi and Mangalore.
